A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of May 11 along the Gerik-Jeli Highway in Perak, Malaysia, when a young elephant was fatally struck by a truck. The impact of the collision pinned the five-year-old male elephant under the vehicle.
According to reports from Malaysian media, the crash occurred at around 2:50 a.m. The truck driver was unable to avoid the calf, which had suddenly run onto the road. Sadly, the young elephant did not survive.

Eventually, wildlife officials had no choice but to sedate the grieving mother in order to safely escort her away from the road. The calf’s body was later removed and prepared for burial.
